The 6 Travel Essentials I Actually Pack for Every Trip (2026)

I've gone through a lot of travel gear over the years. Most of it ends up in a drawer after one trip. Too bulky, too flimsy, too "looked better in the photos." These six are the survivors. I pack every single one of them, every time.

Anker Nano Travel Adapter

This little brick replaced three separate chargers in my bag. It has one AC outlet, two USB-A ports, and two USB-C ports, all in something smaller than a deck of cards. 20W charging means it handles my phone and tablet at the same time without breaking a sweat.

It covers 200-plus countries, so one charger handles pretty much everywhere you're likely to go. One thing to know: it's not a voltage converter. If you're bringing a hair dryer or straightener that doesn't do dual voltage, this won't help. For phones, laptops, and anything USB, you're golden.

Hiearcool Waterproof Phone Pouch (2-Pack)

I picked these up before a trip to Cancun and honestly expected them to leak. They didn't. Took photos through the plastic while snorkeling, touch screen worked fine, phone stayed bone dry.

It fits phones up to 8.9 inches, which covers every iPhone and Galaxy model I know of. Comes as a two-pack, so my wife gets one too. The lanyard is long enough to wear crossbody, which beats fumbling around in a beach bag. At this price point, it's one of those things where not having one costs more than buying one.

Travel Pillow with Extra Large Hood

Here's the thing about most travel pillows: they don't actually let you sleep. Your head lolls forward, you wake up with a neck cramp, and you swear you'll never buy another one.

This one has a hood. Sounds gimmicky, but the hood blocks light and gives you a little privacy bubble, which makes a real difference on long-haul flights. Memory foam inside, washable cover. I used it on a 14-hour flight to Hong Kong and actually slept for five hours straight. That alone paid for it.

Anker 20,000mAh Power Bank with Built-in Cable

Power banks are a commodity at this point, but the built-in USB-C cable is what makes this one worth it. No digging through your bag for the right cable when your phone hits 5% at the airport. 87W max output means it charges a MacBook, not just phones. The 20,000mAh capacity gives me about four full phone charges or one solid laptop top-up.

One note: airlines allow power banks up to 27,000mAh in carry-on. This one is well under that limit at 20K. Never check a power bank. Always carry-on.

Samsonite Evolve SE Hardside 3-Piece Set

Buying luggage piece by piece never made sense to me. You end up with mismatched sizes that don't nest, three different warranties, and more money spent overall. This Samsonite set comes with carry-on, medium, and large spinners, all hardside and expandable.

The spinners roll smooth even on carpet. The hardshell has survived four trips so far without cracking, which I can't say about the budget brand I had before. Bass Black hides scuffs well. My only real complaint: the large size weighs about 10 pounds empty. Pack accordingly if you're checking it.

Bonus: Amazon Baby Registry

Create your registry on Amazon

This one is less "pack this" and more "set this up before you travel with a little one." If you're planning a babymoon or traveling with an infant, an Amazon Baby Registry is worth the five minutes it takes to create. Friends and family can chip in on bigger items like strollers and car seats. There's a diaper fund option too. You can track who bought what and manage returns from one page. Practical, not flashy, but genuinely useful.

What I'd Buy First

If you're starting from scratch, grab the power bank and the travel pillow. Those two fix the most common travel pain points: dead phones and sleepless flights. The adapter is a close third, especially for international trips. Luggage is the big investment item — wait for a sale or grab the set when you're due for a replacement.

I update this list when I find gear that actually holds up. No filler, no products I haven't personally used.
